If your vehicle breaks down or you run out of gas, you can call AAA Roadside Assistance for help 24 hour hours a day, seven days a week in any car—whether you're the passenger or the driver, and anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. To get roadside service, you’ll need your AAA Membership card and a photo ID.
As a AAA Member, your benefits include up to the four services below:
In some cases, additional charges may apply. There may be a charge for labor-intensive battery installations, for example, or tows that exceed the membership’s allotted mileage, and (for AAA Classic Members) for fuel.

Response time varies, but AAA’s Roadside Assistance team strives to provide prompt, efficient service whenever possible. Request road service from the AAA Mobile App, and you can track the location of your technician.
There may be times when AAA services aren’t available, like during extreme weather conditions or when a local AAA tow truck operator isn’t available. In these situations, you may request reimbursement from AAA for expenses. To do so, submit a reimbursement form by email or send it to:
AAA Membership provides each Member up to an aggregate of four (4) total Emergency Road Services per Membership year. Service includes vehicle towing, mechanical help, tire changes, fuel delivery, lockout/locksmith service, and mobile battery service.
To find out how many service calls you’ve used during your current Membership year, please call AAA Member Services at 800-922-8228 Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
You may be asked to provide your AAA card to take advantage of AAA Member benefits. Use the AAA Mobile app for quick, easy access to your Membership card. You can use the app to call for roadside assistance, including towing services and battery replacement; locate AAA Approved Auto Repair facilities and the closest AAA branch; and even find the cheapest gas station near you.

If your car breaks down or runs out of gas and you don’t have a AAA Membership, you can still call 800-AAA-HELP (800-222-4357) to sign up for a AAA Membership and service right away. While it usually takes 48 hours for Membership benefits to kick in, you can pay an additional $75 to waive the waiting period for immediate roadside service.

AAA does not offer roadside service in Mexico at this time. Before driving in Mexico, however, you may want to purchase Mexico Driver’s Insurance.

AAA Emergency Roadside Service benefits are available 48 hours after you first purchase your Membership. If you run out of gas or your car breaks down before then, however, you can pay a $75 fee to waive the waiting period and get help right away. Free immediate towing is limited to five miles; after the first five miles, a per-mile fee (that varies by location) will apply.
AAA benefits are available only to the Member whose name is on the Membership card. If your family member’s or friend’s car breaks down while you’re in the vehicle, however, feel free to contact AAA. As a Member, you can request Roadside Assistance for any vehicle that you’re in, whether you’re the driver or a passenger.
With AAA’s Associate Member program, you get peace of mind when your family is on the road without you—and they get all the perks that come with AAA Membership. You can add family members to your Membership at any time.
Also, you can consider purchasing a AAA Gift Membership for your friends (or family members who live outside of your home) so they can take advantage of all the same AAA benefits as you.
Only the person named on the card can use their Membership. However, if you live in the same household or are away at school they can add you as a family member on their AAA account with all the benefits at a discounted rate—as little as $34 per year, depending on which plan your parent has and the state you live in. As a family member on their account, you’ll be entitled to roadside assistance as well as other benefits, such as discounts on travel and entertainment.

Only AAA Members are entitled to towing service. If you’re a passenger in a friend or family member’s car and the vehicle needs a tow however, you’re entitled to tow service for that incident.
Yes. As a AAA Member, you can request roadside service for any vehicle that you’re in, whether you’re the driver or the passenger.
It depends on your AAA Membership. AAA Classic Members get 5 miles of towing for your vehicle or bicycle, while AAA Plus Members receive 100 miles of towing and AAA Premier Members receive all the benefits of Plus Members plus one 200 mile tow per household per year.
After that, charges incur at the then-current rates of the Service Provider for that area, and must be paid to the Service Provider at the time of service. Although these charges vary by location, the following ranges generally apply:
