Colorful fall foliageEvery fall, the hills and forests of New England blaze with a fiery spectrum of crimson, orange and gold in a color explosion that rivals any fireworks show. Witness the autumn color parade as you travel from Boston on Amtrak’s Downeaster which follows the winding coast to Portland, Maine. Here, you'll embark on a tour of lighthouses on the Portland Lighthouse Trail followed by a lobster dinner.

Roll past New Hampshire’s White Mountains on the Conway Scenic Railroad
as you journey through Crawford Notch. This historic route was first traveled by trains more than 130 years ago, and its spectacular foliage still enthralls visitors. Still more color sweeps by as you ride on the vintage coaches aboard the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad. Complete your adventure on the Green Mountain Flyer, powered by a restored steam engine.

Itinerary mapDay 1 - Arrive in Boston
Please make your own way to your hotel by taking a taxi to the Westin Copley Place for check-in. Don’t forget to get a receipt from the taxi driver to present it to your Tour Escort on Day 2 for reimbursement. After check-in at the hotel you are free to relax or explore on your own.

Day 2 - Boston & Portland, Maine
After breakfast, depart for an overview tour of Boston. See the USS Constitution, Beacon Hill, Boston Garden, Boston Common, Bunker Hill, Faneuil Hall and the Olde State House. Then experience New England’s shining shores from the windows of Amtrak‘s scenic coastal train, the Downeaster as you travel one-way from Boston to Portland, Maine where your deluxe coach awaits.

This afternoon enjoy the Portland Lighthouse Trail, known for its exceptional coastal lights. You'll be in lighthouse heaven as you follow stunning Cape Elizabeth's rocky coastline. See Cape Elizabeth Light, Portland Breakwater Light, Rams Island Ledge Light, Spring Point Light and of course, Maine’s oldest and most historic lighthouse, the Portland Headlight proudly perched overlooking spectacular Casco Bay. Tonight is a lobster dinner at DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant.

Day 3 - Portland to New Hampshire
Ready your cameras for New Hampshire’s #1 foliage route as you travel on deluxe coach through the White Mountain’s breathtaking notches and valleys. Take in the Austrian-style train station, the crisp, white church steeples and colonial era shops. Check out the yummy local food products, hand-made crafts and antiques at Zeb’s famous New England Country Store.

Then board the Conway Scenic Railroad for a delicious lunch served with mountain vistas around every bend. Disembark and continue by motor coach to New Hampshire’s most scenic roadway, the Kancamangus Highway. For the best views of the mountains, we then ride the Loon Mountain Gondola. Afterwards check-in to your charming lakeside resort where you’ll enjoy hearty New England fare for dinner.

Day 4 - Lake Winnipesaukee
After breakfast, spend time on your own in this charming village with time to shop at the Wolfeboro Center. In the afternoon, cruise on Lake Winnipesaukee, an Indian term meaning Beautiful Water in a High Place. Enjoy a delicious hot lunch as you meander along the shoreline dotted with summer mansions. Keep your eyes open for the bald eagles and lake loons as you hear about the area and its Native American history.

Then board the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad for views of the lake while riding the historic tracks of the Boston & Maine Railroad aboard vintage coaches. Spend time on your own touring Castle in the Clouds, an estate perched high above the lakes and surrounded by three mountains. Enjoy a wine tasting of local vineyards at your host inn this evening. Dinner is on your own tonight.

Day 5 - Vermont
Depart for a full-day tour of Vermont. Stop for a photo-op at Quechee Gorge, “Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon” then continue to Woodstock Village, a true New England village nestled in the mountains. Take time on own to browse the shops and walk through the covered bridge. Lunch will follow at Bentleys situated at the heart of Woodstock Village.

Then enjoy a visit to Sugarbush Farm, known for its wonderful Vermont cheeses and maple sugar. Learn about maple sugaring with a sugar house tour, savor the delicious samples and enjoy the views from this hillside farm. Later, arrive at your resort located in Central Vermont where you will enjoy dinner.

Day 6 - Vermont & the Berkshires
Step aboard your motor coach and tour Hildene Estate, home of the Lincoln family descendents. Enjoy lunch aboard the Green Mountain Flyer, a fully restored 1930s antique passenger coach pulled by a vintage locomotive. Stop at Vermont Country Store stocked to the rafters with a wide variety of locally made award-winning Vermont cheeses, rows of penny candy and endless items from the past. Visit the Grist Mill Museum and stroll the Kissing Bridge before we continue our travel back to Boston. Relax at your host hotel and enjoy your final Farewell Dinner with your fellow travelers.

Day 7 - Depart Boston
Your final day is filled with Boston sights and sounds before your transfer to Boston’s Logan Airport. Please schedule flights to depart after 4pm.
