The Eternal City of Rome is an ideal start to any Italy vacation. Walk through one of the Colosseum's 80 entrances, imagining what it was like for ancient gladiators and the Roman crowds who piled into this famous arena to see them. Visit the ruined temples and basilicas of the Roman Forum, nerve center of the ancient empire. And enjoy a special evening of cuisine and culture when you "Dine with the Tenors." Enjoy a wonderful meal while listening to live music followed by a Rome by Night tour of the city's landmarks brilliantly illuminated.
Head south to the fascinating city of Pompeii, buried in 79 AD by the volcanic eruption of nearby Mount Vesuvius. Frozen in time by volcanic ash, Pompeii is one of the few places where an ancient city has been preserved in exact detail - everything from jars and tables to paintings and people. Then cross the Bay of Naples to the gorgeous Isle of Capri, where you'll spend a full day exploring its many sights. On to Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance and home to Michelangelo's famed statue of David and other great works at the Galleria dell'Accademia. Your local guide also takes you to the Duomo, Baptistery and Piazza Signoria.
Your Italian adventure continues in Venice, a city of islands where the roads are paved with water. Cruise Venice's spectacular Grand Canal to St. Mark's Square where a guided walking tour also includes the Basilica, Bridge of Sighs and the Doge's Palace. Conclude your vacation with two nights in the Italian Lakes town of Stresa located on the shores of beautiful Lake Maggiore. From here, take a day trip to the lakeside resort of Locarno before cruising to Isola dei Pescatori, where you'll enjoy a delicious dinner surrounded by spectacular views.
