• Visit an indigenous community to see how the inhabitants thrive in their environment.
• Enjoy a 3-day visit to Amazon Ecopark Jungle Lodge.
Discover the wonders of the Amazon River basin on this exciting itinerary that lets you see the area from a variety of perspectives. A five-night cruise aboard the intimate and comfortable Amazon Premium offers many opportunities to experience the environment up-close, especially at dawn and dusk. Designed exclusively for cruising on the Amazon River and its tributaries, the Premium will take you to locations inaccessible to many other boats, enabling cruising to “hidden” locations and docking at remote spots.
Assisted by English-speaking naturalist guides, excursions during the cruise are made on foot and by motorized canoe and include jungle hikes, sunrise and sunset canoe trips, and a visit to a local native community. Explore lagoons, narrow channels, creeks and flooded forest as you spot wildlife, fish and learn about the region’s fascinating ecology. Delight in the call of jungle monkeys, the splashing of pink river dolphins and the smell of tropical flowers drawing colorful butterflies. From the ship’s observation deck, witness the spectacle of “the meeting of the waters” where the black-water Rio Negro runs alongside the white-water Rio Solimoes for a number of miles without merging. Bird watch in January Ecological Park, a preserve that unites several ecosystems of the region.
And spend two nights (either before or after your cruise) at the Amazon Ecopark Jungle Lodge which features a private river beach, four natural bathing pools, jungle trails and creeks for canoeing. It is also the home of the Monkey Jungle Reserve, a center for the rehabilitation of primates rescued from illegal traders - yet another way to immerse yourself in a remarkable corner of the planet.

Cruise Itinerary
Day 1 - Embark Amazon Premium at Manaus, Brazil (cruise departures are on Mondays)
Meet at the lobby of the Tropical Hotel at 2:00pm and depart for the Amazon River while enjoying a welcome drink and listening to information about the route, ship staff and onboard facilities. Proceed to the ship’s lounge for lectures about the Amazon River and its ecology. After dinner, explore the river’s edge with powerful searchlights to search for caiman, close relatives of crocodile. We may also observe night-hawks, snakes, toro-rats, sloth and frogs.
Accommodation: Cabin accommodations aboard Amazon Premium - 5 nights
Day 2 - Lake Janauaca
Wake up in Janauaca Lake and embark on an early exploration by canoe of the waking forest. Keep your eyes open for birds and enjoy the pink river dolphins. Return for breakfast followed by a hike in the forest accompanied by a nature specialist who offers commentary on the area’s flora and fauna. Visit with local inhabitants who make a living on the manioc plantations, fishing, diverse fruit trees, rubber, Brazil-nut trees, wood and other extractive products. The piranha fishing in late afternoon is not only for passionate anglers but there are good chances of seeing hoatzins and large flocks of egrets. Fish for piranhas and other types of fish. After dinner, explore the forest by canoe with the possibility of observing nocturnal animals. You’ll also get to admire the millions of stars and constellations of the southern hemisphere.
Day 3 - January Ecological Park
Enjoy an early morning bird-watching trip in the January Ecological Park and nearby waterways. Navigate past Manaus port, with views of the floating docks, market, old custom house and houses on stilts. Sail to the Pagodăo River (tributary of the Negro). Then take a canoe trip shortly before sunset to observe nocturnal animals and experience the change in the forest as night falls. Continue cruising to Açu Creek or nearby tributaries.
Day 4 - Anavilhana National Park
Early this morning, explore the rainforest along the waters edge in our canoes while observing fruit-eating birds like parrots and toucans. After breakfast, go for a walk in the forest where we focus on the ways that plants and animals have evolved in the rainforest and the relationship between the plants and their physical environment. Return around midday and perhaps go for a swim before lunch. In the afternoon, navigate to Anavilhanas National Park, the world's largest fresh water archipelago and more then 1,000 miles from the ocean. In the late afternoon, embark in the canoes and learn more about this wonderful nature park.
Day 5 - Visit a Local Community / Lake Acajatuba
After breakfast, we will visit a native community. A walk through their gardens is always interesting since many of these settlers are of Indian ancestry and their knowledge of the rainforest is enormous. Learn about the preparation of manioc flour, the staple foodstuff of the Amazon, and the health and education of their children. After lunch, enjoy one of the white sandy beaches and swim in some of the world’s most clean and refreshing water with the pink river dolphins. Explore by canoe and scout for wildlife in the late afternoon. Dinner will be served as we cruise back towards the Amazon River.
Day 6 - Disembark ship
Following a canoe trip on Lake January at sunrise for bird watching, we’ll navigate to the "Meeting of the Waters" area and then return to the Tropical Hotel landing-stage, with fine views of Manaus waterfront. Arrival at 11:30am.
