Discover England, Scotland & Wales Your Way
With a BritRail pass, you have your choice of how many days you’d like to putter around (the Consecutive pass) or a large block of time in which to do it (the Flexi pass). Simply customize your pass with the number of days that work best for you:
• The Consecutive Pass is available for 4, 8, 15, 22 days or 1 month of consecutive travel. Example: You may choose to travel from Monday to Thursday which would count as 4 days of travel.
• The Flexi pass is available for 3, 4, 8 or 15 days of consecutive OR non-consecutive travel within a 2 month period. Example: You may choose to travel on Monday and then again on Thursday; this would count as 2 days of travel.
• Discounts are extended to children (5 to 15 years old), youth (16 to 25 years old) and seniors (60+). Travelers under 5 years of age always travel free when sharing a seat with an adult or senior. Plus, the BritRail Family Pass offers even more savings: For each adult or senior traveler, one child (ages 5 to 15) travels for free.
This Summer Offers Much to See & Do
Now that summer is right around the corner, it’s a great time to get outside London and explore Britain’s verdant countryside. And there’s no better way to do that than by train. Depending on your travel needs, you may choose a BritRail Pass or, if you're short on time, consider point-to-point tickets. Rail Europe offers an extensive and cost-effective range of fares in both 1st and 2nd class with convenient electronic tickets issued at local train stations.
Yorkshire & Highclere Castle – The massive popularity of Masterpiece Theatre’s Downton Abbey has tourists flocking to Highclere Castle located in Yorkshire. The Great Western Train offers non-stop service from London Paddington Station to Newbury with hourly service from noon to midnight. For those staying in London this is an ideal day trip – journey time is a short 52 minutes. Sample fare: London to Newbury from $48 per person (2nd-class, one-way).
Stonehenge – You can’t come all this way and not visit mysterious, mythical Stonehenge. For many, the rocks are a "bucket list" item. Although Stonehenge is a fun day trip, it will not take up your whole day, so you can easily add the Salisbury Cathedral and/or travel to Bath all in the same day.
The Agatha Christie Festival – This annual event takes place in September in Torquay, England in honor of the Queen of Crime, who was born here in 1890. The town transforms itself into a murder mystery capital with ladies and gents in their period finery immersing themselves in tea parties, theatre, dinners on steam trains and vintage bus tours.
Bath & Jane Austen – Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is celebrating its 200 year anniversary. Venture to Bath where the author lived for five years and where two of her novels take place. Visit The Jane Austen Centre exhibition year round and, if you go in September, also enjoy the annual Jane Austen Festival which includes activities, dances and Regency Promenades. Trains depart from London's Paddington Station every 30 minutes. Sample fare: London to Bath from $36 per person (2nd-class, one-way).
Go further afield in Scotland or Wales – Visit Scotland for the world famous golf courses and imposing castles. If you go in August, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Edinburgh International Festival turn the city into the arts capital of the world while Wales features sporting events, and music and culture festivals throughout the summer months.
This is just a small sample of fun events and destinations throughout Great Britain. So take a break from the hustle and bustle of London, and explore England's old and new!
